PROGRAM

Parasol Puppets Present:

THE GINGERBREAD MAN ON OLD MACDONALD’S FARM

Old MacDonald has a most unusual farm. Parasol Puppets presents colorful hand puppets in this musical version of everyone’s favorite song story. On this farm are chickens and ducks and cows and ... oh, no, a very hungry fox! The story gets even more exciting when the Gingerbread Man races through this pastoral scene. Can anyone catch him? Audiences enjoy singing along with ukulele and hammered dulcimer music as these two familiar characters collide into an original adventure. Songs include OLD MACDONALD HAD A FARM, I HAD A LITTLE ROOSTER, SIX LITTLE DUCKS and INCH BY INCH.

Peter Allen and Debbie Lutzky Allen were already experienced solo puppeteers when they met at an UNIMA International Puppetry Convention in Germany in 1984. Married in 1986, they created Parasol Puppets in 1987. They soon discovered that separate puppet stages make for a great working marriage, and have been making a living at puppetry happily ever after.

Debbie is from Honolulu, Hawaii, where she performed and taught puppetry since 1979. Peter has been performing as a puppeteer and actor for over 50 years. Born in England, he began doing puppet shows at the age of eight. Peter has performed puppet shows in England, Scotland, Germany, Canada and the USA. Peter moved to Hawaii when he married puppeteer Debbie Lutzky in 1986. They created Parasol Puppets and successfully performed and taught puppetry from their Hawaii base for 10 years. In 1997, Peter, Debbie and Parasol Puppets moved to a farm outside of Jamesport, Missouri. From this central location, they continue to tour with their puppet performances to the East Coast, West Coast, Hawaii, Canada and many points in between.

Mesner Puppet Theater Presents:

THE CAT CAME BACK

Based on the folk song (made popular by Fred Penner), this performance tells the tale of Mister Johnson and a mysterious cat who keeps returning to his doorstep. Mister Johnson tries everything he can to get the cat to go away, from giving her to a pilot to sending her into outer space. The cat, however, keeps coming back!

Mike Horner joined Mesner Puppet Theater in 2006 and became the company’s Artistic Director in 2016. He is MPT’s lead puppet designer and builder, creating puppets for the company’s productions as well as for other theatrical and video clients. When not directing at MPT’s Kansas City-based theater, Horner can be found touring nationally and internationally with the company’s shows.

About The Mesner Puppet Theater:
Mesner Puppet Theater Mission:
